about

I started this track for a male artist years ago. The original vibe was the direction he wanted to go, but in the end I finished it for myself. His intention for the song was about stepping out of a relationship, and realizing he may be alone in the loving. My intention was about stepping away from things that are weighing you down whether that would be something you are addicted to, a bad friendship/relationship...whatever ...that isn't feeding your soul properly. I love how songs can take on different meanings when you listen with a different lens.

For example, the first line "lately I'm pretty crazy wondering if you love me the way you say you do", suggests in his life he's in a one sided relationship with someone who says they love you but fails to show up to give love equally.

From my perspective this rings true when we think about the things that seduce us and leave us with attachments. The things we have a one sided relationship with. Things that promise us much more than what they deliver.

In the end whatever you are tethered to in an unhealthy way can leave you longing and alone...desperate to move on, but also afraid. Afraid because you know, if you let go of that bit of joy....you'll be in darkness again, and for who knows how long. Then the fear of stepping away sinks in when you came from darkness and are going back into darkness. The negotiating starts and you over and over sell yourself out to have an ounce of joy, instead of courageously walking into the dark unknown. One promises some joy, the other only the hope and possibility of joy if you can manage the pain of loss.

It takes courage to move into the new. This song is about recognizing and sneaking away in the moment you can, knowing your flaws, and accepting that you have to do it this way in order to actually convince your mind to let go....because you know yourself better than anyone, you can easily talk yourself into a terrible good time, when given the smallest chance to do so, and then the cycle repeats!

Here's to walking away....finally!

lyrics

Lately i'm pretty crazy wondering if you love me the way you say you do
It's in the way you say I love you that makes me wonder if you really know that you do
Now I'm on the edge of something new
I know you've done all you can for me, but I gotta do what's best for me now
And let you walk out of my world, its something I don't want to see
But I gotta do what's be for me though

I need you, but you want someone else
I gotta give you away somehow today
Why you sayin' that I let you down
You were just keepin' me so you're not alone

Maybe you were thinking I'd be into pretty lies
The ones you're tellin' while you stand on the blind side
I'm not willing to pretend anymore giving into you then
Was my way of just hangin on

I need you, but you want someone else
I gotta give you away somehow today
Why you sayin' that I let you down
You were just keepin' me so you're not alone

If I give into you one more time
I know I'll lose my senses to say good-bye
I gotta let you down make you wonder why
I couldn't make things work when you want to try

I need you, but you want someone else
I gotta give you away somehow today
Why you sayin' that I let you down
You were just keepin' me so you're not alone
Not alone, I gotta give you away somehow today
Why you sayin' that I let you down....
You were just keepin me so you're not alone
